I'm pretty lucky, living here in San Diego. We host the world's greatest Comic-Convention each year and we also have some of the industry's brightest creators and publishers.
One such example is Exhibit A Press which was founded in May 1994 by Batton Lash and Jackie Estrada. Batton serves as co-publisher as well as writer and artist of Wolff & Byrd, Counselors of the Macabre, which has been retitled Supernatural Law, starting with issue #24. Jackie is co-publisher, editor, and typesetter. Mitch Berger, Esq., serves as legal consultant.
Supernatural Law is currently in development as a live-action feature at Universal. The script has been written by S. S. Wilson (Tremors, Batteries Not Included) and Steve Mazur (co-writer of Liar Liar), with a revised draft by Marti Noxon (the new head writer on Buffy, the Vampire Slayer). The director is Norwegian Harald Zwart, whose first U.S. feature, One Night at McCool?s stars Michael Douglas, John Goodman, Matt Dillon, and Liv Tyler and is scheduled for February release. (Zwart was hired on the basis of strong positive reaction to advance screenings of this comedy.)
The movie is being co-produced by Nancy Roberts (Stampede Entertainment) , Anabel Jankel (Cucumber Productions), and Universal-based Marc Platt. (Platt is currently producing another comics-based property, Josie and the Pussycats, also for Universal.) According to the Hollywood Reporter, production is scheduled for a January start.
